Google’s fitness service, Google Fit now tracks sleep pattern. The update also brings dark theme for users.
Google Fit, the health tracking platform helps users track activities like walking, running, and biking. It can even track fitness and weight loss goals. The app is available for free for Android and iOS users. Google Fit also acts as an interface between smart wearable devices powered by WearOS. You can even access the data from Google’s website. This update introduces all the features that Apple’s Health app offers to iOS users.

Dark theme

Google is on a quest of adding dark mode to all its services. A recent update brings dark theme to Google Fit users. Google claims that dark mode is gentler on eyes and it can help you increase the battery life. You can enable the dark mode from settings.

Switching to visuals that are easier on eyes is particularly important as Google Fit is an app-only service from March 19. It is great for small-screen wearables that you are likely to check in low-light or on smartphones at late night.

Sleep tracking

The new update adds active sleep tracking, giving you better insights of whether or not you need to improve your sleep quality. Sleep patterns will not be displayed over time with purple bars. The data shows how many hours and between which hour, you are asleep. You can view all the information from home screen of Google Fit app.

In an official blogpost, Google Fit’s product manager, Defne Gurel said, “At Google Fit, we understand that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is more than just tracking what you do on the go. It’s also about resting up and powering down.” You can link other sleep apps and wearable devices to Google Fit. Sleep history data can be edited to improve the accuracy.

Earlier this year, Google acquired Fossil’s smartwatch tech for $40 million and now with Google Fit, the company is betting big on the wearable tech business.
