Apple had drawn lot of flak recently from MacBook owners for a faulty keyboard design. Apple has now made some changes to its faulty Butterfly keyboard that was drawing the ire of Apple customers. MacBook users are also getting free upgrade to the all-new keyboard. To resolve this long-standing issue, Apple has updated the material used in its MacBook keyboards.
The company has extended its MacBook keyboard replacement program. The Butterfly keyboard that first appeared in 2015 MacBook is the faulty one. The company had to announce free replacement program after users complained about sticky keys and letters double-typing.
Last year, Apple had announced that it will replace a small percentage of keyboards in certain MacBook and MacBook Pro models. The program covered all MacBooks from 2015 to 2017.
The first generation of Butterfly switch keyboard was known to have issues. MacBook keyboard has gone through multiple iterations since then. However, even the third generation of Butterfly keyboard, which was meant to resolve all existing issues was having the same sticky keys problem.
In March 2019, Apple issued an apology note and accepted that it is aware of the problem. The apology statement reads, “We are aware that a small number of users are having issues with their third-generation butterfly keyboard. The vast majority of Mac notebook customers are having a positive experience.”
